Placenta encapsulation is the naturopathic process of preparing the placenta into capsules for consumption.
The placenta has been used in Chinese medicine since the 1500s to aid mothers in postpartum recovery. We deliver affordable placenta encapsulation to new moms throughout the Seattle area. Encapsulation is a method in which the placenta is steamed with herbs and then sliced, dehydrated, ground into a fine powder, and then made into pills.

Once we receive your placenta, we begin processing it typically within 24hrs. Your capsules are then delivered to you within two days.

There are two different methods of encapsulation: Raw and Traditional Chinese Method (TCM). We only offer TCM.
The theory behind the TCM method is that the “warming” (steaming) of the placenta with specific ingredients that have warming properties aide in accelerating the healing process and restoring the body. There are characteristics or “symptoms” present if someone is “Qi” deficient. Being “Qi” deficient makes you vulnerable postpartum to illness.
With the TCM method, we steam the placenta with fresh lemon, jalapeno, and ginger.
The placenta is then thinly sliced and dehydrated for about 8-12 hrs. The raw method theory is that it aides in preserving optimal nutrients, hormones, and enzymes intact.
While both methods provide energy for mom postpartum, the raw method often produces higher levels of energy. With the raw method, the placenta is not steamed and goes straight into the dehydrator after it is thinly sliced, it is then dehydrated at a lower temperature for about 24hrs.
Your safety is our utmost priority! We use stainless steel equipment soaked in a 1:10 bleach: water ratio for a minimum of twenty minutes. Equipment and work surfaces are also sanitized with hospital-grade disinfectant. Once the equipment is sanitized then it is rinsed and ready for processing, as to not transfer any chemicals to your placenta processing.
For each placenta encapsulation, we use a set of reusable and one-time supplies for each encapsulation.

Turn around time is usually 2-3 days. Once your baby is born, we ask you to contact us as soon as possible, so we can make arrangements to begin processing your placenta. Once we receive your placenta, we begin processing it typically within 24hrs. The capsules are then ready in about 2 days.
As soon as you have decided you want your placenta encapsulated or are considering it, please contact us! We would love to answer any questions you might have. Some clients hire us months in advance, while some contact us as late as the day of their birth! It is ideal if you can give us at least a week's notice.
On average one placenta yields about 80-120 capsules. The birth weight of the baby almost always typically correlates with the size of the placenta-- the bigger the baby, the bigger the placenta. And the bigger the placenta, the more capsules you'll receive!
The placenta should be refrigerated or kept in an ice cooler. If it is stored in a cooler with ice, any melted ice will need to be emptied and replenished with fresh ice. Your placenta will keep for up to three days in a refrigerator prior to encapsulation.
It can be particularly helpful in the event of a c-section due to the trauma caused to your body. Your placenta has specific hormones that aide in the healing process. Urokinase inhibiting factor and factor XIII help with wound healing.
Since twice the amount of blood volume is lost during a cesarean when compared to vaginal birth, the hemoglobin the placenta contains will help restore your hemoglobin and iron levels. Interferon and gammaglobulin, hormones contained in the placenta, helping to boost the immune system and decrease postpartum infections as well.
Also, with a cesarean, milk production can be delayed up to five days. Prolactin in the placenta can benefit milk production during this time.
Yes! While placenta encapsulation is most beneficial immediately postpartum, it can still provide benefits even if it is encapsulated months after you have given birth. As long as the placenta has been handled and stored properly, we will encapsulate it up to twelve months after birth.
A one-time, flat-rate travel fee of $25 is applied to all pickup and/or delivery locations outside of a 30-mile radius of Renton, WA, where our encapsulation specialists are located.
Upon completing the online form to reserve our services, you will receive an invoice for a deposit of $75. The remaining balance is due upon receipt of your capsules.
Alternatively, you have the option to pay for the entire amount of the encapsulation up front. We accept credit/debit cards, checks, and cash.
